Luke started swim lessons with a lady who lives about 30 min away. She's extremely good at teaching kids to swim and it's been really educational to watch her teaching method. She is firm. It does my heart good to listen to her responses to Luke's protests. "NO! I CAN'T!!" She quietly but firmly says, "You can. And you will." When he says "No, I don't like this!" (about the back float) She responds matter-of-factly, "Well, sometimes we have to do things we don't like." And she just is merciless in just pushing their head under water and saying "swim!". But they do it. Luke can now jump off the diving board, swim and take breaths (well, one breath) and he can dive down to the bottom to retrieve rings and such. He actually LOVED swim lessons. I liked how his teacher was totally unreserved in her teaching methods. It was refreshing - I think our generation of moms are a little soft.

amen and amen on mom's being a little soft these days.
i'm frequently asked, "how do you get your kids to do that?"
and i'm all, "it's easy: you scare the living daylights out of them."
well, you know, more or less ;)
ps -- not bryan...
