"GOING TO GRACELAND!!!"

"...MEMPHIS TENNESSEE! We're going to Graceland." SO, exciting news huh? Joey just signed the contract to work for Dental Care Partners in Memphis. We are so dang excited. I can't believe it's really true. Who would have thought - Tennessee! I've never even been there. Anyway, they sent the contract and Joey called and negotiated and got everything he wanted. The sly little devil. Anyway, we booked the moving truck and are set to move July 2nd and Joey starts the job on July 7th. We get to live by Joey's sister Sarah and her fam (who by the way just had a darling baby boy named Trace who can be best friends with Lukey) and also Joey's cousin Josh. We're all looking for houses at the same time in the same neighborhood (which is RIGHT by Joey's work and the church and temple). Pretty fun stuff. We've had our east coast experience, ate some crab, enjoyed the beach, watched some broadway shows - now we're heading to the south for some good BBQ and southern hospitality!

WAHOOO!

"There's a girl in New York City who calls herself a human trampoline and sometime when I'm falling, flying, tumbling in turmoil I say whoa so this is what she means... she means we're bouncing into graceland..."

sleepy sleeperson

Luke turned 4 months on Sunday and he hadn't slept through the night yet. He had a great schedule of only waking up once in the night and usually sleeping in - but we wanted him to be able to go the whole night. So, we read and talked and decided to try the 'cry it out' method that night. I was so nervous because I've heard how hard it can be so I stayed up reading success stories and about how good it was for the baby to help myself be psychologically ready. Sure enough - that night we woke up about 3:30 to our son's sad cries. It was so hard to just lay there - I felt like the biggest jerk. But much to my surprise - the crying only lasted 12 minutes (although it SEEMED a lot longer). He must of gone back to sleep. This was a huge breakthrough and I didn't quite believe it so I stayed awake a bit longer just to make sure. He slept until 8:30 in the morning!
We were prepared to do this for the next 3 or 4 nights but the last 3 nights he's just slept THE WHOLE NIGHT until 7:30! It's so weird for me to go to bed and not wake up until it's time to get up. (and by weird I mean awesome) What an good boy. I'm so proud of him. I think he was totally ready to sleep through the night and was just waiting for his parents to let him.

So - I weighed him a couple weeks ago and he was 17 pounds! What a chunkwonker. We have his 4 month appointment coming up and I'm excited to see where he falls in the charts. He's so long and "sturdy".

Luke's new bumbo

We got a bumbo about a week ago and I think it's so fun to see
Luke sitting up and looking around.

ms. dean

i'd like to dedicate this post to my neighbor: ms. dean. i just got home from a Gladys Knight concert with her and i had such a good time. she's so funny. i realized how lucky i have been these past four years as i listened to her cool stories about her growing up in the mountains of north carolina in a farming community without electricity. she churned butter, worked in the fields all day and read by oil lamps. and get this - she said she loved it! people would comment that she was the only one who would work all day long and come in singing. why did that make me realize how lucky i am to have such a neighbor? well, it's ms. dean. someone who i've watched work tirelessly beautifying her yard, spreading sunshine to all her neighbors, teaching us how to garden, lending us yard tools, sneaking over and weeding our pitiful flower garden, bringing us christmas dinner, scolding me for not wearing shoes and for cutting down our big tree. she is a one of a kind and i hope i can be like her when i grow up. :-)

p.s. luke likes her too.

George Washington?

Why did it take us so long to do the diaper on the head trick? Seriously - it may be a comedic given but hey we're new. So - here's our colonial Luke. I don't know why I think this is so funny, but come on - he's pretty cute right?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MOM & DAD!!!!

These two have been married now for 37 years. They met at Weber State when my mom needed a ride home and her friend pawned her off on my dad saying "I know a guy who will do anything for food" (still true). So, he took her home and she gave him some homemade stew. When she found out he was an artist she showed him a caricature that an artist had done of her. He said it was crap and she challenged him to do better. He turned it over and started to draw her. After a few minutes he threw down his pencil and said "I can't draw you, your face is crooked." Ahhh... sweet, romantic dad. Really, they are a great couple and as I got to spend time with them last month when I was home I realized the years have only made this marriage sweeter and better. happy anniversary guys!

Every story has a beginning...

Joey and Katie first met in Mr. Hawkes 3rd grade class at Valley Elementary. They became good friends in Jr. High and best friends in High School. Katie wrote to Joey on his mission in Tiajuana and Joey wrote to Katie later on her mission in Tokyo. Years later at the ripe old age of 25, these best friends finally fell in love... or maybe just realized they were already in love. They got married on January 22, 2004.

happy kids
