Winter Trip: Part 1

*Winter Wonderland*
My kids have never REALLY played in the snow and so I decided it was time for a trip to Utah in the WINTER to let them experience a taste of my childhood.   (and conveniently it gave Joey a bachelor pad to host 8 guys for their 2nd annual bro disc golfing extravaganza)

Our first experience with snow.  We had arrived in Salt Lake and ... maybe someone forgot to pick us up. :)  So, we had some time to kill.  It was about 9 at night and I just opened up our suitcases and found the winter clothes and bundled the kids up. They found a little patch of super crusty old snow on the other side of the fence and wanted to play in it.  So, the Utah onlookers saw these kids delighted to play in their month-old, crusty snow at the airport -trying to kick and hack at it to make some ice snowballs.  It's all about perspective.

Back in Memphis, picturing the magic of a playing in a winter wonderland with my kids was a little bit different than reality.  Let me just tell you - playing in the snow with kids ages 1, 4 and 6 is pretty exhausting.  Especially being 5 months pregnant.  It takes about an hour to round up winter clothes to get everyone dressed.  Then trudging around in the deep snow carrying or pulling kids and repeatedly putting on little gloves when they fall off  kinda wore me out.  But the kids LOVED it.  Especially Luke - who was old enough to hike around on his own.

Loved it!! Loved seeing you and wish we lived in Huntsville for a minute so we could have seen more of you. It was super great to have you to ourselves for a day! I can't believe that Jenny Jr. on the back of the sled! Wow! You are a tough cookie taking three kids to another state on your own while preggers! You are just that fun.

Katie Hale! You never cease to amaze me! You are such a good mom. Those pictures make everything look so lovely and fun and euphoric. But when I think about all the work that went on behind those pictures taking care of 3 kids away from home and being pregnant - like I said...you are A-mazing! You have some lucky kids to have a momma like you!

Every story has a beginning...

Joey and Katie first met in Mr. Hawkes 3rd grade class at Valley Elementary. They became good friends in Jr. High and best friends in High School. Katie wrote to Joey on his mission in Tiajuana and Joey wrote to Katie later on her mission in Tokyo. Years later at the ripe old age of 25, these best friends finally fell in love... or maybe just realized they were already in love. They got married on January 22, 2004.

happy kids
