2. Joey is feeling buyers remorse?
...about...
these two purchases..

(a kia sedona minivan - actually we love that. joey also bought a boat. a crappy boat we call 'ugly betty'. but hey, it pulls a skier. and so far the motor hasn't fallen off or anything.)
3. Katie had a birthday and turned....
(8 x 4)
and got the birthday party of her dreams....
(the best way to feel on a birthday is young. ... oh and hip to the bone.)
and 4. Luke begins his journey to the understanding of all things potty.
(Potty-training notes:
the real "verbal rehearsal" didn't go quite like what was outlined in the book:
me "does daddy wet his pants?"
luke "yes!"
me "no, daddy doesn't wet his pants. he is a big boy. he always has dry pants. you can be like daddy. does daddy wet his pants?"
luke "yes!"
me: "are you a baby luke?"
luke: "yes!"
me: "no luke..... etc."
me: "now you are a big boy and go peepee in the potty. where do you go peepee?"
luke looking out the window: "i go potty in the clouds! i go potty in the trees!"
me: "luke, check your pants. are you dry?"
luke: "are you dry?"
me: "no, i'm asking you. are YOU dry?"
luke: "are YOU dry"
me: "luke, i'm asking you about your pants. please check them for me. are they dry? don't just repeat what i say."
luke: "don't repeat what i say"
katie on the inside: "ahhhhhhh!!! what's wrong with my child!!!!!"
end of day one stats:
accidents: 10
things learned: zero
exhausted, disheartened and worried parents: two
end of day two (today) stats:
accidents: 1
potty successes: 8
encouraged, hopeful parents: two
kid who does things on his own terms: one
potty training saga to be continued...)

that was hilarious! You'll be so glad you wrote those conversations down. sorry I missed your party. It looks like it was fun though.
Yay! 8 successes! FABULOUS! keep it up, he'll get there!
happy (late) birthday Katie! i finally decided to take the plunge and we started potty training today too! i think she's been ready for a while, but i haven't been...we'll see how it goes??
hahahahaha!! so funny!!!! i loved it. not fair that joey gets to go boating while you potty train. you deserve another party. :)
Oh, those Luke conversations! Gave me the crying laughs I needed this morning. I'm wondering how I can work "I go potty in the clouds" into my everyday conversations. Hope you had a happy 8x4 (nd) birthday! Happy boating, Betty!
Tell me why you had a number 8 candle in your house?
I love that you are potty training and I am not! Never again!
Not to bring you down, just to warn you--my son continued to have one or two accidents a day for close on to a year.
Here's hoping Luke will go potty in the clouds, and not on your carpet.
P.S.--Love "Ugly Betty."
P.P.S--I meant, I love "Ugly Betty" as a name. Not that I am ugly betty.
I hope.
I loved this post and the conversations. I don't care how ugly that boat is, Rob would still take it any day. And that party looked awesome!
edith- the 8 candles are from my birthday 2 years ago (2008). joey put 8-8-8 on my cake.
Atta girl, Mommy!
Tears!!!!!!
This next comment is for Joey...I was looking at the neato calendar Sarah made and looked at your family page (november) and thought...Joey sure chose a gem of a girl. He is so smart and so blessed. Seriously. Ya dun good!
back to the post:
Laughed my face off at midnight and woke up chad...so funny!
Oh, and the strategic product placement shows good taste... He may or may not feel the same when he is 12...:D
Awesome boat!!!
Great Potty Talk!!!
Killer Birthday !!!
Cute Baby!!!
Funny MOM!!!
There is just too much to comment on! First off, happy birthday! You, on roller-skates, is truly the personification of a dancing queen. I'm sorry to have missed it.
Next, Lucy is beautiful.
Next, I adore Luke! He is so cool. I'm so glad he's truthful about joey's wet pants. You can't pull anything on him! What a great moment capture in a great way!
I miss you and happy late birthday!!!!!!
Tee hee hee. I like Luke. Happy Birthday Katie! I'm glad you didn't break a hip even though you are 8x4. That's a good sign.
So Fun!! I can't believe the VAN and the BOAT. The boat is to come for us one day, but I am not letting Justin see this post because that will mean ours will have to come sooner. j/k :)
Your kids are growing up so fast and your family looks so cute!
Oh, the secret to potty training... No pants for the day, just the shirt. Camden potty trained in 3 days. Brayden tried the juice, the talks, the TORTURE... At 3 1/2 years old- he was STILL potty training.
ugly betty is a beaut!
ps boats are so fun! wish i could be there to go skating and skiing with you. :)
