Happy Ton-aversary

It was a boring Tuesday afternoon on July 14th when I got a call from Joey saying not to make dinner because he had an idea of what to make. Ok, sounded good to me. I spent the late afternoon at the Cresaps babysitting and was about to go home when Joey called again and said to go ahead and just leave Luke there with the Sarah. Huh?? Yeah, he said, don't worry I already talked to Sarah about it. Sarah said, don't you know what today is? And I said, it's not anything. July 14th..... July 14th?? I'm really good with dates and I couldn't think of anything. I racked my head all the way home (the whole 2 minutes) and all I could come up with is French Bastille day. But, pretty sure we don't celebrate that. So, I get home and Joey is already there. He hands me a card and he is smiling pretty suspiciously. I was so confused. I open the card and it says - "Happy Ton-aversary". Yep, he says, we've been married 2000 days!
Oh my goodness! What? Who does that? Who knows that?!!

And thus began the magical night we celebrated being married 2000 days. He took me to The Melting Pot where we ate continuously for 2 hours. The food was amazing. And we dipped scrumptious bites into scrumptious sauces to our hearts content. We reminisced about our early days of being married. Living the Huntsville duplex with the boxelder bugs. Making fires in our wood burning stove. Staying up until 2 or 3 in the morning. Raiding our parents basements for food storage food and spending almost nothing on groceries. Those were the days.
Here's a dark and blurry picture of us at the restaurant for your viewing enjoyment:

So, I thought it had been a nice night and we were going to be headed home but no, no, no - Joey had big plans for us. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me where we would be going. We drove and drove and low and behold where would my most romantic husband take us? Oh, to the lovely Tunica, MS aka the Vegas of the South. He had $40 worth of free table chips (so don't judge us dudes) and he had been really itching to use it. This place was packed! It was a Tuesday night and Tunica is seriously in the middle of no where and I just kept thinking - who are all these people? There were some serious gamblers there, everyone dressed in black and then there was me in my little yellow cardigan, white skirt and blonde ponytail asking the kind, cigar puffing, 240 pound, in all black leather gentleman if I could please sit by him for a round of black jack and btw how do you play? Then I felt even more out of place when I kept getting all the rules wrong. "No touching your money!" "Only one hand on the table at a time!" "No pictures in casino!" etc. etc. I got in so much trouble. But don't worry guys - we totally left there with a clean cool Hamilton. TAKE THAT Sam's Town Tunica!!

It was a funny, funny night. On our drive home we saw a little old shack with a neon sign that said "Palm Reading". We decided what better way to end our adventurous night than with a crazy gypsy predicting our future? We pulled up and again, this is in the middle of nowhere. We walked to the front door and it had a padlock on it. We knocked but I started thinking it all seemed pretty creepy and was relieved that our gypsy never came to the door. So, we headed home with our $10 happy to be married for these 2000 days. Who would have thought I would luck out so big to get to marry this guy. Happy Ton-aversary to us I guess.

Dude, we totally had $80 of free chips for sam's town! Had we known we could given them to you. Just isn't something that comes up in conversation I guess! Sounds like a great night and I am pretty impressed that he would figure out how many days you've been married.

do you think that joey didn't something illegal and is just softening you up before he goes in the slammer? then you would really have some good memories to help you hang in there during his incarceration -he'll wanna tell the nation his appreciation!
I love you and joe de joe too. give him my regards, and send me a real photo of luke in the mail please. love you

Every story has a beginning...

Joey and Katie first met in Mr. Hawkes 3rd grade class at Valley Elementary. They became good friends in Jr. High and best friends in High School. Katie wrote to Joey on his mission in Tiajuana and Joey wrote to Katie later on her mission in Tokyo. Years later at the ripe old age of 25, these best friends finally fell in love... or maybe just realized they were already in love. They got married on January 22, 2004.

happy kids
