Pros & Cons of Pregnancy

Pros -

1. Feeling the baby move - ok number one definitely has to be feeling the baby. It's never been bothersome to me at all, even when it wakes me up at night. I absolutely love carrying around a little friend with me all day and when he moves it reminds me that I'm not just fat.
2. Skin - for some reason my skin has been awesome during pregnancy. It's clear and not oily and I do feel like it has a neat color to it ... like the "glow" people talk about. But then there is the pregnancy mask which I'll get to in a minute.
3. Hair - Same thing for my hair. I love that I don't have to wash it every day and it never gets greasy. My sisters used to call my hair "buttery feathers" - I know, nice huh? But now I can wake up and it's kinda just good-to-go hair. And don't we know that is every low maintenance girl's dream.
4. Attention - Yeah, it's pretty awesome being the princess for 9 months. I really do love how much attention I get from Joey and how people around me - strangers or friends - basically let me do whatever I want.
5. New clothes - I've been really lucky and have awesome sisters-in-law and friends who have donated many maternity clothes to my wardrobe. So, if you have to get bigger - it's nice to have cute clothes to do it in.

Cons -

1. Pregnancy mask - ok, there are these weird brown dots that are above my upper lip and on my cheekbones. So, from far away it might pass as blush and lipliner, but it also might look like sunspots and a mustache. I read that this is called the mask of pregnancy and you just get weird colorations sometimes.
2. Chapped lips - I guess along with the dry skin (no zits) and good hair (no buttery feathers) comes dry lips too. I get up every night about 2 or 3 times to use the bathroom and get a big drink of water. I know it seems counter-intuitive but I'm SO thirsty at night. And my lips are always need Vaseline - especially the corners of my mouth.
3. Heavy legs - My legs always feel like I just ran a marathon. They feel tight and heavy like they need a good stretching. So - as Joey can attest - I spend a lot of time in the evenings in weird stretching positions trying alleviate the tenseness. It gets worse when I get tired.
4. Backaches - I've never had any problems with my back before and I really hope that after I have the baby I can go back to that. Because like I said to Joey - "The back is SO important - it's like the backbone of the body..." :-) I wake up sore a lot and sitting at my desk hurts me too. Poor Joes - he ends up rubbing my heavy antsy legs and my old aching back more than ever. Yeah, but then again, I am the princess for at least 6 more weeks.

It's strange coming from a single, childless, man but I can't tell you how fascinating that was. Thanks Kates. I just went through 9 months of pregnancy in a blink of an eye and I feel great!… I'm going to disneyland.

I'm glad that you included the pros as well as the cons of pregnancy. And I definitely agree that you should milk it for all it's worth. What's the count down for leaving the mental, I mean, Dental Museum?
One thing that I though might help. When my legs would feel tense, I would elevate them by laying on the floor and proping them up on the couch. It always worked for me. Good luck!

you get to be a princess way after the baby is born, remember that! milk it at least until you're done nursing. "honey, i can't get up, i'm feeding our child, could you get me a milkshake?"

If it makes you feel any better, my back hurt too when I was pregnant with Tucker. I think it was the dumb chair I had to sit in until the day I delivered at work, but with Aubrey...NO BACK PAINS! It was awesome. I kept thinking that my back would start to hurt and it never did, so just think that your next pregnancy might not be that bad. (Not that you are thinking about your next child yet!) Oh and you should go and get a pregnancy massage. You will feel great afterward and it's sooo worth the money!

I think I can second your list as well. Honestly it is so much better to drink the water during the night than not and deal with the extra potty breaks. After all it only takes one kidney stone to make you a believer!

I wanted so badly to buy Depends for bedtime that last trimester, just so I could get some sleep! Anybody who'll be the first to start this tradition has my respect.

My skin gets awesome during pregnancy too, and stays that way for most of the time I'm nursing the babe.

Every story has a beginning...

Joey and Katie first met in Mr. Hawkes 3rd grade class at Valley Elementary. They became good friends in Jr. High and best friends in High School. Katie wrote to Joey on his mission in Tiajuana and Joey wrote to Katie later on her mission in Tokyo. Years later at the ripe old age of 25, these best friends finally fell in love... or maybe just realized they were already in love. They got married on January 22, 2004.

happy kids
